Siamese Fighting Fish by Visarute Angkatavanich

Having been the fortunate custodian of many a Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens), these spectacular photographic portraits stopped me in my tracks. Bangkok-based photographer Visarute Angkatavanich took the pictures of the fish in  crystal-clear water and cleverly chose black backgrounds which display the vibrant, natural colours of the fish in stunning form.

Siamese fighting fish are popular, both for their stunning beauty and their entertaining, aggressive nature. I certainly wouldn’t want to be alone with one in a tank! As they move through the water their elaborate fins flow like silk and this talented photographer has captured this perfectly.

If these marvellous creatures move you, head along to the website where limited prints are available or view his full gallery on 500px.com.
